{"id":570,"date":"2014-04-09T00:00:03","date_gmt":"2014-04-09T00:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oryxpeople.com.au\/?p=570"},"modified":"2025-03-10T03:24:52","modified_gmt":"2025-03-10T03:24:52","slug":"women-only-sales-positions-advertised-at-gold-coast-dealership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oryxpeople.com.au\/women-only-sales-positions-advertised-at-gold-coast-dealership\/","title":{"rendered":"Women-only sales positions advertised at Gold Coast dealership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal has allowed one of the Gold Coast\u2019s biggest car dealers to advertise some sales jobs exclusively to women.<\/p>\n<p>James Frizelle\u2019s Automotive Group applied for an exemption under the Anti-Discrimination Act, but the tribunal found that the retailer did not need an exemption since the company was attempting to promote equal opportunity in a male-dominated industry.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-114 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-01.cms-ap-v2i.applyflow.com\/oryx-people\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/car-saleswoman-job1-208x300-1.jpg\" alt=\"car-saleswoman-job[1]\" width=\"208\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Frizelle\u2019s joint Dealer Principal, Brett Frizelle, said the tribunal ruling made good business sense.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen make a significant number of the purchasing decisions in households,\u201d Mr Frizelle said, \u201cso by employing more female sales people, we are meeting our customers\u2019 demands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Frizelle, the company\u2019s Group Operations Manager, admits that less than 5 per cent of the company\u2019s current sales staff are women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have tried to get more women, but it is difficult because they see the industry as male-dominated, so they don\u2019t apply,\u201d Mrs Frizelle said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdvertising for women specifically lets them know that we are interested in them. We are not trailblazers in this area,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are plenty of high-ranking women in the automotive industry,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tribunal member Susan Gardiner pointed out that it was appropriate for female staff to be available for customers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The company] says that its women customers want to be served by other women whom they trust and who speak the same language,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal has allowed one of the Gold Coast\u2019s biggest car dealers to advertise some sales jobs exclusively to women.
